Girls and Boys
- Women and Men
30/4/93 BBC Radio 4 broadcast the following information this week:
A computer game which shows four women, wearing
little clothing, are killed unless the male murder is
defeated by the player of the game.
The government is considering trying to have this
game banned. Many other similar games are allowed
or the contents can be unknown to parents.
Most boys will own a computer
Women receive less heart operations
than men, so research has found.
One male surgeon said, he wouldn't
perform a certain operation
on a woman
because she would only be pushing
a
vacuum cleaner around afterwards.
The researcher, who was male,
in an
attempt to lessen the accusation
of
discrimination on the part of
mainly
male surgeons, said, the woman
might have opted to do other
things,
like change their life-styles.
A man saying, yes or no to a procedure has choice.
A woman who changes her life-style (this might
mean dying which is also a change of life-style)
because she is not offered an operation does
no have choice.
