CONCEIVING DIFFERENCE
THE PROCESS

We wanted to celebrate the conception (at least) of all disabled people, particularly bringing this to the forefront in this millennium year, with all the terrible implications for us from genetics, eugenics, geneome project et cetera. We thought to parody 'celebrity' by having an exclusive party for 4 disabled people at a top London restaurant, with hired paparazzi. We liked this but wanted something more meaningful. We sent not-invitations to significant, by the media's standards, people, with no address just descriptions - letting the post office decide some significance. The returned ones came to our PO BOX and are being made into a curtain of spurious signifiance. The not-invite informed of the party and, like a Reader's Digest competition, held the promise that they might be the chosen ones to receive an actual invitation - better to not be chosen as significant than to be chosen as unworthy of life.
